Question from reader: How can I overcome weariness?

[Ah, weariness...... we all experience it and sometimes wonder if we will ever feel rested. I remember an old saint sharing with me when I was worn out as a young mother, struggling to do everything, and still longing to grow spiritually. She said, "Sometimes the most Spiritual thing you can do is take a nap." I was stunned..... and wondered how on earth I could ever fit a nap into an already overpacked day. And how can napping be Spiritual? I found out that if I could give myself even 10-15 minutes alone, lay down and just concentrate on the Lord, it made a world of difference in my energy and attitude. Sometimes we need to stop and reconsider our obligations. Are we doing more than we need to do? The old saying, "if you want a job done well, find a busy woman and ask her to do it" means that we are accepting responsibility for more than God intends us to handle. I realize that in today's busy culture there are no easy answers. However, I have found that as we will take care of ourselves, which includes cutting back, taking breaks from busyness, find a quiet spot to rest and refocus, in the long run you will be more effective. Remember the Lord said, "Come to me all you who labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest." Jesus went apart to be alone and pray, and if He needed that time to recharge, how much more do you and I? You will never have enough time.....so you must schedule the time in just as you schedule work, car pool, play dates, cleaning, laundry etc. My prayer for each of you is that you would indeed learn to "Rest in the Lord." Ps.37:7 ]

How do I get free from sexual immorality?

[There is no sin or temptation that is greater than the power of God. He is able to save "to the uttermost" Heb 7:25 Within James 4:4-10 we find the key to all deliverence: humility. In verse 6 it reads in the Amplified version "But He give us more and more grace (power of the Holy Spirit, to meet this evil tendency and all others fully). That is why He says, God set Himself against the proud and haughty, but gives grace [continually] to the lowly (those who are humble enough to receive it). It goes onto to tell us the conclusion then is to submit ourselves to God. In that position of humility the devil has no power over us - he will "flee" (vs 7). God's Word is all powerful! It absolutely works - no question about it!! From a practical stand point - coupled with obedience to that passage of scripture - there are some important protection elements to incorporate into your life. #1 Act quickly! When Joseph was face with temptation he RAN from it! #2 Treat all movies, music, TV shows containing seductive material (words or scenes) as if it were the bait of Satan himself. His goal is to make a fool out of mankind and bring them to destruction. Resist him - don't be made a fool of. #3 Commit yourself to noble tasks. Solomon and David both fell into sin when their focus was off. Keep your life focused on noble deeds. God has created you and I to be "crowned with glory & honor" (Ps 8:5), clothed with "strength and dignity" (Pr 31:25). Since that is His will for you, why would you settle for less? Refuse anything that is less than God's will for you! #4 Make yourself accountable to a very godly person (assuming all our readers are women - go to a woman) who has proven themselves to be trustworthy. If you are struggling with immoral thoughts or behavior expose it to the Light! Whenever sin is brought into the light it shrinks away because darkness cannot exist where there is light. Evil is ALWAYS overcome by good. Keep yourself accountable and in the light. #5 Build yourself up! The plan of the enemy is to tear down humanity through sin. As you overcome evil of every kind, including sexual immorality, build yourself up in the faith. Acts 20:32 says that the Word of His grace, which is His commands, counsel, and promise of favor, is able to build you up. Scripture also tells us how David encouraged himself, he built himself up. We can do this through simple affirming words regarding ourselves! And of course there's no greater way of being strengthen like that of prayer: talking to and looking to God! God's will is to make your life dignified and significant. He has already overcome the devil and His power is available to set you free from sexual immorality. His Word will be proven faithful and more than able to deliver you! John 8:32 You will know the truth and the truth will set you free! Live Free (1 Peter 2:6) ]

I have been fighting off a call on my life for sometime now - ministering to women. I am a divorcee but for the Grace of God am now a mighty woman of God. The devil has been telling me - you have failed in you own marriage, how can you do this? I am now convinced through prayer and God's confirmation this is my call. The question is how do I get rid of this condemnation? Where do I start without upsetting my local pastor as I have sensed some resentment towards my involvement in leadership at the church? [Condemnation is the voice of our enemy saying "you are a failure...you don't measure up to the required performance". He is right! I don't measure up, and I never will be able to. That is why I desperately needed Jesus when I came to Him years ago. My salvation is rooted in the grace of God. I continue to need Him and His grace for every day of my earthly walk. My strength, wisdom, and spirituality will never be enough. The blood of Jesus IS enough. He made me righteous when I first came to Him, and I stand today in His righteousness, not my own. When I fail, He will forgive and cleanse whatever I repent for. To stop the voice of the enemy, I need to plant the Word of God in my heart that will speak truth in his face. Meditate on Romans 5:17-21 and study the book of Ephesians. Your decision to walk in purity until God sends His choice of a husband for you is so wise. God has to teach us and prepare us before we are ready to be the helpmate He wants us to be. Leadership in the kingdom of God is mostly from the position of a servant, not a master. Can you serve your church leadership? Can you come alongside to help and encourage those who are responsible for ministering to the women in your church? Purposing to live in unity with those in leadership will allow increased anointing in the church and take away territory the enemy could work from. Focus your frustration against the forces of darkness rather than the people who seem to be obstacles. When we say yes to God and allow Him to move as He wills, we have a ringside seat on the most exciting action in the world! ]

How do I build and protect my marriage when I'm so busy?

[This is a good question - one I pray all will take seriously. Every marriage relationship is different, but my husband and I have certain things we do together that help cement our union. For instance, we drink coffee while having devotions together almost every morning. Sometimes it's a temptation to rush up to my office during a particularly busy time, but I hold myself back - making time with him a priority, thus protecting an important aspect of our relationship. I tend to be goal oriented, but at 6:00 PM, no matter if I've achieved my day's goals or not, I turn off my laptop, put down my pen and join Tom for an evening together. Protecting our time together is important to my husband and our relationship. In regards to growing my marriage, I pray "Lord, keep me one step ahead of all I teach others." Falling behind in my own marriage in an effort to minister to other is not an option for me! I read books on marriage and fill my mind with the Word and godly teaching. I continue to grow as the Lord teaches me new things. ]

How can I overcome fear?

[Let’s address the kind of fear that we KNOW we want to overcome. God’s Word plainly says in 2 Timothy 1:7 “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” Since fear is not of God, I don’t want it. Notice that God has given us something in its place: A spirit of power, and of love and a sound mind. When we are feeling that gripping fear, where are we first affected? In our mind. Our thoughts get stirred up and soon to follow, our physical body lines up with our thoughts. Fear that causes us to feel paralyzed or unable to function in faith is definitely real. It’s motivated by a spirit that is contrary to God. Fear puts our mindset into alarm or fright. It causes us to become mildly to exceedingly filled with a sense of dread or . Throughout the bible it is repeated many times to “Fear Not” and to “Not be Afraid”. One of my favorite verses answers the why before it is asked, "Because I am with you,” ( Josh. 1:9). With God on my side and with me, what can overcome me? (Heb. 13:6, 1 John 5:4) NOTHING! Disqualify God’s fear by qualifying God’s love. Fear can be overcome by simply disqualifying it. In its place qualify God’s love. God’s love for us is 100% complete and provisional, lacking nothing. His love is “perfect”. "There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love." 1 Jn. 4:18 Fear cannot manifest itself to you when you understand and believe how much God loves you, that He is standing with you cheering you on, and that He has empowered you to overcome by the love sacrifice He gave through Jesus. You can then begin to truly live an abundant, joy-filled, fear free life the way He intended. Overcome Fear by Believing and Speaking Day by day, bit by bit, verse by verse, we need to renew our minds with the truth of God’s Word (Rom 12:2). In doing so, we can combat the spirit of fear by the word of our testimony, knowing that the blood of the Lamb is the power at work in and through us. Speaking out loud what the Word says reminds us what we have. Speaking God’s Word doesn’t bend God’s arm to perform, it opens our heart to be able to receive what He‘s already given us - VICTORY! We put out fear by having faith in God’s love. We have victory over fear every time by believing that God’s Word says we do because of His love. It is most simply stated in Rev. 12:11, "And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony." We overcome any work of the enemy, (in this case, fear) by the blood of the Lamb. That is to say, the death and resurrection of Christ grants any child of God all authority and dominion over the enemy. Also, we overcome ‘by the word of our testimony’ - speaking the truth of God’s Word, which is the key to being free from anything that would hinder us from living free and enjoying God’s best. ]
